• Pay for Family Medicine Physicians Up a Notch Overall, family physicians fall in the middle of specialties in terms of pay satisfaction, at 61%, but the proportion who spent 10 or more hours on administrative tasks jumped from 62% to 77%.
• Internists' Pay Nearly Flat, Still Ranks Near the Bottom Despite the relatively low pay, they reported the same job satisfaction as physicians in orthopedics, where the pay was more than twice as high.
• Neurologists Near the Bottom of the Pay Scale but Still Happy With an average annual income of $244,000, most neurologists believe they are fairly compensated and are happy in their chosen profession.
• Gender Disparities in Pay Still Problematic for Ob/Gyns Obstetrician/gynecologists who are men reported higher annual compensation ($339,000) than women ($273,000), an annual difference of $66,000, according to the latest Medscape Ob/Gyn Compensation Report.
• Oncologist Compensation Increase Last Year Among the Top Oncologists in the US had a double-digit increase in income during the past year, making them one of the top gainers among specialists, according to the Medscape Oncologist Compensation Report 2018.
• Psychiatrists' Incomes Rise as Demand for Services Soars Psychiatrists were in the lower half of specialists in earnings this year, but they saw the biggest gains in income (+16%), according to the Medscape Psychiatrist Compensation Report, released April 18.
• Pediatricians Among Lowest-Paid Specialties Since 2013 Pediatricians' annual compensation ranks among the lowest of all physician specialties, according to the 2018 Medscape Physician Compensation Report. This trend has persisted since 2013.
• Rheumatologists' Pay Up 9% Rheumatologists' pay increased 9% this year, up from a 1% increase in last year's Medscape Compensation Survey.
